Gardening Group Talk – “Taking the fear out of Pruning”

Fifteen members of the Leyland U3A Gardening Group plus two other members enjoyed a very enjoyable and informative talk on Friday 25th September 2015 at Leyland Fox Lane Sports and Social Club.

The speaker was local horticulturist and gardening expert Marguerite Hughes, who is well known in the area, and speaks to many groups, including U3A’s, and also runs gardening classes.

She was accompanied by her colleague Sue Gillon of Meadow View Plants in Tarleton.

The subject of her talk was “Taking the fear out of Pruning” – a task that many amateur gardeners find daunting.

Marguerite made her talk most interesting by giving practical demonstrations, and plenty of hints and tips. She encouraged audience participation and invited interaction with our members.

During the tea break, there was an opportunity to purchase plants brought in from Sue Gillon’s nursery, and this was followed by many questions from members.

It was most encouraging to see the enthusiasm of our members, which augers well for the future success of our group.
